Thought of the Week- Chelle

Okay girls let's get this blog thing going! When you came into When Godly People Do Ungodly Things you picked up a hand out and at the bottom of the page was a "Thought for the Week". So....I am sure that you have spent the last few days diligently pondering the thought so let's start throwing out some thoughts!

Okay, so some of you don't remember the the thought or worse than that some of you didn't read the handout or some of you were participating in other areas of study or ministry and did not receive the handout and because of that I will repeat the thought or should I say question of the week.....Why did Jesus come to earth?

Click on the comment section below and start reflecting! Use scripture to back up your answer or leave your statement and maybe someone else will know the scripture that backs your thought up. No pressure....just a fun way to stir up some blog conversation!

Let's encourage one another in the Word. So get your minds to thinking and your fingers to typing!

Okay, you did it! You clicked on the comment section. WOOHOO! You have taken the first step. Now all you have to do is leave a comment. (Please make the comment about the question of the week. I don't need to read about how goofy you think I am! My kids, husband and some of you are happy to tell me that in person!)

I must say I did notice the thought of the week, but thought perhaps it had been discussed in the first part of study that I missed.

When I think about why Jesus came to earth... many things run through my mind. He came to seek and save that which was lost. Scripture states that "none is righteous, no not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God." He seeks after us!

So... this is my opinion of why Jesus came to earth.

No one is good... there is not even one! Front pages of papers... children raped by rapists... Iraqi torture chambers... and we the blame claim we're blameless.
Wrong... All
And swelling up inside of us there's this pride in us, this arrogance, and our only line of defense is the sense that I'm not half as bad as this friend of mine so I must be fine.
We mean well don't we?
Yet I've never seen good intentions set a man free
From Hurt... All
This poor unfortunate soul... filling a single void with toy after toy girl after boy... how boring! This wasn't meant to be humanity's life story... warring with God saying what have you done for me?
Bought... all
Hanging out for six hours... marred beyond recognition in complete submission to the father's will...still a proclamation was made louder than the loudest temptation with more beauty than all his creation.
More eternal than eternity.. more angelic than the heavenlies
IT IS DONE!
You are bought with blood
ACCEPT
REJOICE
FREEDOM HAS COME!!!

I am human... I fail on a daily basis... despite my good intentions... I cannot free myself! The chains that bind me can only be released by the giver of life itself... and that is Jesus... He came that I might have life and have it abundantly. That I might rejoice and see that FOR FREEDOM HAS COME!

Dawn-I have ordered books and they should be here by Wednesday at the latest. I'm hoping they come Monday or Tuesday, though, and I will let you know as soon as I have them!

As for the question of the week...

"The words 'it was credited to him' were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness - for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification." Romans 4:23-25

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:1-2

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1

First, I think Christ came to earth so that our sins can be forgiven, reconciling us to God, so that we can be in His presence for all eternity. That in itself is an indescribable gift, more than any of us deserve or can even truly grasp while still on this earth. But I think there is more to Christ's coming than just salvation from death and eternal separation from God. As Heather noted above, according to Jesus' own words, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10

I think that is what draws me to this study more than anything. I know the salvation that comes from the Lord and believe with all my heart that He has the power, love and mercy to save me from sin and death. What I have trouble experiencing on a daily basis is the freedom Christ offers each of us when we live our lives in complete surrender to His wise, loving authority. I want my focus to be steadfast on the face of Christ, not hindered by circumstances or lies whispered in my ear by the enemy. I want to be strong and courageous...to fight the good fight in the name of Jesus...to rest with confidence in my knowledge that He is in control of all things and will never leave me nor forsake me...that I am worthy of the calling I have received (Eph 4:1). I believe that is why Jesus came to the earth, that and so much more than we can put into words in this life.

I heard a pastor say once that "when God creates each person - he fully intends for them to be a Christian - but once they are born, free will sets in. "

Jesus came as a living, breathing example of God's love for us, and to show God's power to save. Its an individual decision on whether or not to follow Him.

FYI - both my mom and I will be absent this Wednesday. NO ONE offended us!! Ha Ha -- have a great week, looking forward to seeing you all on the 24th!
